This “Kuri” (chestnut) wood has been deeply connected to the lives of Japanese people since ancient times. It is heavy, hard, and resilient, and resistant to water, making it suitable for supporting foundations of homes or as sturdy beams and pillars found in traditional Japanese houses. Its color is a gentle, creamy hue reminiscent of chestnuts, creating a warm and inviting impression.

The raw wood is harvested during the winter dormancy period before the buds sprout in spring, and is immediately sawn. It is then thoroughly dried before being processed. No two pieces share the same wood grain due to the nature of the material, and the texture is smooth to the touch.

The gently rounded shape fits comfortably in the palm of your hand, offering a comforting feel that makes you want to hold it for a long time. You can sense the meticulous work of the artisan. It also has a form that allows water to drain easily.

Furthermore, wood’s natural properties prevent it from becoming too hot to hold even when filled with warm food. The base is thicker for added durability.
