Product introduction
[A pioneer in anti-tank warfare famous for his swiftness] The M18 Hellcat was a tank destroyer developed by the US Army to counter powerful German tanks such as the Tiger and Panther during World War II. The open-top turret emphasizes enemy spotting power, and is equipped with a powerful 76mm tank gun. In order to secure space within the turret, the main gun loading part was laid out with the gun barrel rotated 45 degrees around the axis. Also, weight reduction was sought in the compact car body, and automatic transmissions and torsion bar suspensions, which were the first in an American tank, were also introduced. It exhibited a maximum speed of over 80 km/h with a star-shaped 9-cylinder gasoline engine mounted at the rear of the car body, and boasted the fastest rail-mounted vehicle in World War II. Production of the Hellcat began in July 1943, and the first battle began on the Italian front in 1944. After that, they were also dispatched to northwestern Europe and the Pacific front, and destroyed German tanks one after another with hit and away tactics that made use of high speed performance and firepower. As a spearhead of anti-tank combat, it contributed to the victory of the American army.
