About the Artist
This year marks the 100th anniversary of Kazuo Yamada's birth. Although he was not blessed with recordings during his lifetime, his work is truly being revived with the release of numerous unreleased recordings. Tobu Recordings has chosen the "Roman Trilogy." These are flamboyant pieces that perfectly suit Yamada, yet until now, only a private recording of "The Festivals of Rome" with the Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra has existed. His enthusiastic conducting is almost palpable. In particular, the roaring voice, as if in sync with the low strings, is incredible in "Pines of the Appian Way," a performance that is sure to enthuse the audience. Continuing this strong performance, the "Festivals of Rome" features a powerful pause that would even impress Gergiev. This is the legendary frenzy that truly embodies Kazuo Yamada's talent. Wow, it's hot! With a sharp edge, the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra allows us to enjoy their virtuosity, which is no less impressive than today's. Excellent digital recording.
