Content introduction
Villa-Lobos, a great Brazilian composer, is said to have been able to play almost any musical instrument. It seems strange that all of his works for the guitar, which must have been his most familiar instrument, could all fit on one CD, but of course the quality of the work is extremely fulfilling. This is especially noticeable in dance-type songs, and the exotic flavor of the overflowing Brazilian atmosphere can be said to be exceptional. In addition, his ``Etudes'' explore the technical possibilities of the guitar, and it is no exaggeration to say that his achievements are comparable to those of Chopin and Liszt on the piano, and Paganini on the violin, in that he escapes from convention while embodying the ``expression unique to the instrument.''
