The 413 series is a commuter train with dual-mode AC/DC power that was introduced in 1986 during the Japan National Railways (JNR) era.
In the 1980s, JNR saw an increase in passenger numbers in regional urban areas by shortening train formations and operating more frequently.
However, previous express trains only had interior decks and single-door doors on each end of the car, making it difficult to facilitate smooth boarding and alighting during rush hour.
As a result, the company sought to increase the number of commuter trains by reusing the equipment of express trains and upgrading them to new cars with double-doors that omitted the deck.
These cars were introduced throughout Japan, but those destined for the Hokuriku region were classified as the 413 series and, like the express trains they were converted from, were dual-mode AC/DC.
After the privatization of JNR, they were taken over by JR West and operated mainly on the Hokuriku Main Line.
This product recreates the train in its original red livery, as it was when it first debuted.
