Product Introduction
Micromill "1/35 US Navy Mk.15 Surface Torpedo (Set of 2)" plastic model kit.
The Mk.15 was a surface-launched anti-ship torpedo used by the US Navy during World War II.
The Mk.15 was a long-range torpedo, a larger version of the submarine-launched Mk.14, equipped with a larger warhead.
Along with the Mk.13 and Mk.14, it was the US Navy's main torpedo during World War II, with approximately 9,700 produced.
Early models of the Mk.15, like the Mk.14, suffered from problems with the depth setting and magnetic fuse, but these issues were not discovered for a long time due to the lack of surface battles during the Pacific War and the difficulty in distinguishing between surface and artillery fire.
However, during the Battle of Vella Gulf in August 1943, defects were discovered, such as failure to detonate even when hit, leading to improvements to the system.
